The Role of Mindanao State University-Maguindanao in the Socio-Economic Development of Maguindanao Province

The study aimed to determine the role of Mindanao State University-Maguindanao on the implementation of its four-fold functions in the pursuit of the socio-economic development of Maguindanao Province. The programs and activities related to socio-economic and cultural development were “Extensive”. The four (4) fold functions of the university such as instruction, research, extension, and production services have a significant relationship to the social development of the people in the province of Maguindanao. However, there was no significant relationship to the socio-economic and cultural development of the province. This implies that the Instruction, Research, Extension, and Production programs should be improved and focused on the economic and cultural development of Maguindanao province. The respondents of this study were a hundred seventy (170) consisted of deans, principal, secondary teachers, instructors, professors, staff, and alumni of MSU-Maguindanao. A survey questionnaire was distributed to the respondents. The overall ratings of the respondents on Instruction, research, extension, and production were “Extensive”. The extensive (Mean 3.84) of the university was attributed to the competence and expertise of the faculty members and the curricula focused on the contents of the subject matter as well as the full support of the staff. The alumni believed that the education and abilities they receive from the university prepared them to perform the assigned tasks and responsibilities in their respective institutions and individual self-entrepreneurial activities. Meanwhile, the “Extensive” research activities of the university were attributed to the competence of the research director and staff in addressing the needs of the constituents. Likewise, the “Extensive” extension programs of the university were attributed to the knowledge, skills, technological transfer, and services offered by the extension director, staff, and workers of the community. Finally, the “Extensive” production program of MSU-Maguindanao was attributed to the actual application of the technologies of the clienteles in the different areas of Maguindanao province.
